Heinahattu Ja Vilttitossu
Finnish. Now with English subs!
Utterly delightful is the only way to describe this sensually innocuous study in childhood in a Finnish summer.
The simple photography and innocence of story-line easily transcend the language barrier, making this a pleasure to watch over and over with or without sub-titles.
Two sisters (Katriina Tavi, Tilda Kiianlehto) must deal with the fact that their parents are more preoccupied with their lives than that of their children. To compensate, the youngest girl, roughly five years of age, terrorizes the family, including a plan to run away. Her older sister, about seven, however, takes on the role of saint and does her best to keep the family together. Yet, how will everyone react when she decides to punish her parents and sister by turning into a complete brat?
Scandinavian coming of age drama and film studies in childhood are the envy of the cinematic world, and this is a fine example of why.
Very good viewing quality.
